Boundary
Barley's Boundary is a fairgrounds, and a very large one at that with many buildings, empty lots, spaces, and animal/produce facilities onsite. It is used for a variety of things throughout the year, such as concerts, food festivals, competitions, and smaller events- but the biggest thing that it is used for it the state fair.
When the state fair is in motion, the whole of the fairgrounds becomes packed, and the many corners became different sections that seem worlds in themselves. There's a whole section for the humans including expos, rides, food stands, and whatnot- while another portion becomes more animal-centric, where there are pens, arenas, and whole buildings and barns for showing. Here there are also cultural centers for produce and farming, and butts against the more human-centric portion of the fair. There is lots of things to do, look at, and enjoy when the state fair is at its height!
The state fair itself usually lasts about two-weeks, and smaller events only a few days. Outside of these, the fairgrounds are rather barren and even lonely. These times in between leave the Boundary very quiet, and even to the point it's desolate- Barley generally doesn't mind, he just sleeps a lot more during the off season. But by the time some new event sets up, he's more than ready for the change and influx of visitors.
Barley Interacting With His Boundary:
Barley is right at home in the fairgrounds, regardless of what happened to him in his past life. He doesn't remember any of the bad sensations from getting sick as a calf, all that lingers for him from that memory is how at home, safe, warm and comfortable he felt as he drifted to sleep.
Barley can sleep anywhere, but he knows all the best spots to take a snooze, and he knows all the hiding spaces in the fairgrounds like the back of his hand. But since things tend to move around and shift with each new event coming to set up, there's no real way of knowing his way around completely... not that it bothers him. It's nice to just wander, and even get lost in the massiveness and ever-shifting nature of it all.
He doesn't mind loud noises or rowdiness, though he prefers places on the more quiet side- but he can deal with either, and sleep through either too. And he also doesn't mind a mess, though if he has his choice he prefers the mess on the animal-showing section of the fair, rather than the more human-central one. People litter a lot, trash, cans, etc- it's different from scattered and spilled feed, mud and all other such things- but it's not horrible.
The only thing he absolutely cannot stand is humans who intrude too much in a space, or bother an animal too much they are making them uncomfortable, or even possibly hurting them. People need to learn boundaries, and when they don't, Barley can get a little huffity, and will do his best to shepherd an animal away to a different place from where the offending human is.
Barley also frequents the petting zoos that get set up around the fair, and helps keep the animals in them calm. He also nudges children being too rough to be a bit more gentle, as young humans can perceive him in some way or another.
He also helps keep show animals conformable and calms them down as best he can, which is usually by curling up with them and having a good nap to settle the nerves. He's a calming and welcome presence to those animals brought to the fair and who may be stressed with the new environment.
On nights when things are still going strong and the humans are still up and about, he'll enjoy walking through the well-lit sections of the grounds, taking in all the different shops, stands, things humans are selling/cooking, and the rides too. He has a soft spot for the merry-go-rounds that appear, and the ferris wheel's too- since you can settle down in a chair and snooze on the low-energy rides. Plus when you stop at the top of the ferris wheel, you can see the stars.
