Backstory
Nephele was a human in her past life, a very long time ago belonging to one of the Ancient Peoples inhabiting the western coasts in the northern most portions of North America. She was part of the first peoples and met her end when crushed by a heavy sitka spruce tree that had been struck by lightning, and was shattered at it's base.
She was killed by the heavy trunk crushing her. The fallen tree was too heavy for her body to be retrieved, so her corpse was eventually decomposed and swallowed back up by the earth, and the tree itself as it rotted and provide nutrients and such for other life to start and grow off of.
Neph has very little memory of her previous life that strays to about no memory at all. She feels a sort of connection with the older portions of the forest that are still around, and were there all these many centuries ago when she had been alive- and she has a rather strong attraction to the space in which the tree had fallen and crushed her, but that is it. She does not remember her death, or her life before it, what she does remember is somehow stepping from that fallen spruce tree in her new form as an esk, as if she had grown and been created by the tree itself. She has a great affinity for trees of all kinds partly because of this sense of creation from one.
She has no idea which esk created her, or why- but as she has lived a very long time and never met the esk responsible for her Transformation, she believes they rendered her an esk, and then returned to the earth directly afterward- and perhaps even joined themselves with the tree that had fallen and killed her when she was a human.
She is not sure if this is the truth, but it is what she had decided upon- but who knows? Perhaps someday she will meet them again, or find an esk even older than herself know who the esk that created her.
