Personality
In her past life, Morrigan was a solitary and quick-witted, perceptive hunter and scavenger, who held a faint distrust of other creatures and of humankind. And in her life as an esk, some of these things have stayed the same, while others have changed in time.
Given the circumstances of the end of her past life, Morrigan’s distrust and distaste toward humans has grown- but it is not outright maliciousness. She has grown more wary of them when they cross her path, but she is not quick to anger, or to bolster. Instead, in her new life as an esk she’s attained some strange level of patience and watchfulness- and a certain sense of knowing and perception that she can’t quite explain. She has a keen understanding and respect for the process of life and death, and she knows all things have their time, and eventually we all return into the earth…. But that is not the end, there is always new life blooming and growing atop the old.
She has an eerie sense of when time is up for something living- plant, animal, human, or otherwise. She can tell when something’s time is near to an end and she finds herself drawn to these little moments where life meets death. She is a watcher in the shadows, a lone pair of eyes in the darkness- silent, and waiting, and patient. She will not interfere in these little moments, she does not wish to disturb the balance and she would never tamper in it- she’ll simply wait for the end to come, or move on before it does and let fate do what it will.
She has such uncanny ability of knowing when a living creature's time is coming to an end (be it illness, accident, natural disaster, etc) that she’s earned a rather grim persona from the wildlife and the humans who catch shadowy glimpses of her. To many she’s seen as an omen of death and ill will, and they shiver at the thought that they may catch a glimpse of her watching from the shadows or on the horizon.
Morrigan’s demeanor to most all is rather frigid and unsettling, and many skitter away the moment they catch sight of her. She is quiet, reserved, and generally doesn't really have much a care about anything- and she is especially uncaring of being seen by anyone at all (quite a contrast from her former life). She knows that animals can usually perceive her, but she does not mind their eyes. And humans usually can only perceive her in small ghostly glimpses, or fleeting images from the corners of their eyes- and still she does not care. She cannot be bothered by them, because she knows she has passed beyond their ability to do any true harm to her now.
She's the sort that seems somewhat silently judgey of you and what you're doing, and this is a big turn off for most. She has an air of being a little high and mighty and like she knows she's better than you, or knows more than you too- but it's not really like that. She really does not care about you, or what you do, or even why- she's disinterested to an extreme and leaves you to live as you will, and she knows she has no say over it (nor should she). Lowkey though there are a few thing that do irk her, though she'll never let it show- she has no love for humans, and those that do unnecessary harm or stir up trouble she does take issue with, and will stew about their behavior internally.
Because she is in tune to the intricacies of life and death and the inevitability of it all, Morrigan remains unattached to anything. She does not hold plants nor creatures close to her heart, because she knows one day they will no longer be there- this includes even the stone, and the things made by man. Eventually all things fade away, so she doesn’t form attachments, or place any amount of importance in anything at all. She is completely content in just being on her own, watching life from afar as time continues to march on, and she remains a silent sentinel.
This is not to say she is incapable of kindness, or pleasantry when the time calls for it. For those that do not shy away from her initially unsettling aura at first, and do dare to speak with her- she is tempered, and polite, and tender when need be. She will gladly spend time with those wishing to do so, just don’t expect her to open up to you, or attempt to build any lasting relationships. She will spend an evening with those brave enough to do so, share stories she has of all the years she’s been on earth, and send them on their way again.
Morrigan has been around a very long time. She is very old, and has seen much through the ages- she has plenty of advice to give, to those who seek it. She will never boast to being all-knowing or even that her answers are true or correct, but she will gladly give you her opinion, and you may take it for what you will….. There is a certain wisdom to her, something almost ethereal- so many do take her for her word…. For better or for worse, who knows?
In terms of other esk she may, in time, become a bit less formal and polite when interacting with them- since like her, Esks are capable of living a very long time before they return to the earth. She is hesitant to do so though, and it will take quite awhile for her to work up to that stage with anyone. You'll more likely find her relaxed and much less formal with you, than you'll ever hear her call you 'friend' or share the more personal details about herself.
