Rhys and the Conservatory
Getting to the Conservatory was neither a goal, nor a want for Rhys- in fact, they had no notion of it at all before suddenly finding themselves there without warning. Since Rhys has near to no knowledge of themselves in their new form of an esk from the very start, they were entirely unaware of the existence of the Conservatory for quite some time, and were still altogether unsure of it when they accidentally managed to transport themselves to the Conservatory one day.
Rhys had been having a particularly bad day, as the restaurant was quite busy and they’d been stuck tucked away in the garden to try and stay hidden and out of sight- but the humans were constantly moving back and forth across the garden and there was not even a moment of peace and quiet to be had. They curled up wishing for the humans to quit moving to and fro, and for just a moment- let the unending noise cease, and for them all to just go away.
No sooner had they willed this to happen, did Rhys suddenly find that the garden was gone and they were somewhere completely, and utterly new and unknown- in an instant.
It would take some time for Rhys to come to the conclusion that their want of peace and quiet is what ultimately triggered the sudden journey to the Conservatory- but in that moment, there was little but shock and unease and fear coupled with sheer agitation. They had no idea where they were, how they got there, or how to get back- worse still was the realization they'd somehow gone very far from their boundary, and that meant one very specific thing- their peppers were about to start dropping off their form and they did NOT want that.
Panicky was the most apt description for their first twenty minutes in the Conservatory, followed by an undending fear that- while their peppers didn't seem to be dropping or shriveling right away- they eventually would… And what if they never grew back?
Of course this never occurred, their nature features remained vibrant and healthy the whole time while in the Conservatory.
This first day was hard on Rhys though, they were very fidgety and darted quickly from hiding place to hiding place, moving through the different regions of the Conservatory in search of an exit and uncaring of anything else. The strange environments were barely afterthought, the abundance of other esk nothing but a nuisance and a threat- they had to get out of this strange place quick as they could and do so without running into any unwanted situations or encounters.
Once the initial flood of panic waned a bit, Rhys realized that if perhaps they'd managed to get here by willing for peace and quiet (though not necessarily by being snatched away somewhere else entirely), then perhaps willing themselves to be back home would do the trick….. And thankfully it did. They were back home in the familiar and the normal and the known.
Rhys had no want whatsoever to do a repeat of this whole situation, and it took a number of weeks for them to relax enough that even thinking about the whole situation didn't immediately set them on edge.
