Personality
Barley is a kind and gentle soul, with a little flair of a child at times- but generally he's a sweet boy, and a very sleepy one. He's soft spoken and doesn't say much, if anything at all. Most of his emotions and thoughts are conveyed with simple sentences and through little actions.
He's not shy or timid, and he has no issue approaching new things or people. He can be rather curious, and he loves making new friends of esk and animal alike- but especially so those animals that get carted in every year for the state fairs.
Though he's not the most active, he'll participate in the occasional and short round of chase or hide and seek if an esk/animal wants to.... but don't be surprised to find him already curled up asleep if you take too long in finding him. Barley doesn't have a lot of energy to spare, since he's in a constant state of drowsiness- but if need be, and he sets his mind to doing something, he will get it done. Just as long as there's a nap in store afterward.
He's the biggest sleepyhead on the planet, this is why he's so softspoken. Also lots of naps, and though esk don't really sleep- Barley has his own version where he just rests somewhere and lets his mind go absolutely blank or wander aimlessly. It's pretty close to actual sleeping, and he loves doing it. Bonus if he's taking naps with others- he especially likes taking naps with the show animals scattered about the fairgrounds.
He doesn't mind loud noises or rowdiness either, though he prefers places on the more quiet side- but he can deal with either, and sleep through either.
He also doesn't mind a mess, though if he has his choice he prefers the mess on the animal-showing section of the fair, rather than the more human-central one. People litter a lot, trash, cans, etc- it's different from scattered and spilled feed, mud and all other such things- but it's not horrible.
The only thing he absolutely cannot stand is humans who intrude too much in a space, or bother an animal too much they are making them uncomfortable, or even possibly hurting them. People need to learn boundaries, and when they don't, Barley can get a little huffity, and will do his best to shepherd an animal away to a different place from where the offending human is.
Barley also frequents the petting zoos that get set up around the fair, and helps keep the animals in them calm. He also nudges children being too rough to be a bit more gentle, as young humans can perceive him in some way or another.
He also helps keep show animals conformable and calms them down as best he can, which is usually by curling up with them and having a good nap to settle the nerves.
